What We Train Our Staff

All Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are trained in key areas of safety and emergency response, including:

In Home Emergency Protocols

Every home is different, but emergencies can happen anywhere. That’s why our DSPs are prepared to respond to:

Medical emergencies (seizures, injuries, or choking)
Fires or power outages
Unsafe conditions or escalating behaviors

Infection Control Standards

To keep everyone safe and healthy, our infection control practices include:

Proper hand hygiene and glove use
Masking and distancing when appropriate
Regular cleaning of high-touch surfaces
Clear steps for reporting illness in the home

DSPs are trained to follow universal precautions and report concerns immediately.

Promoting DSP Safety in the Home

Working in private homes brings unique challenges. Our agency supports safe work environments by:

Addressing hazards like cluttered walkways, unsecured pets, or smoke exposure
Providing nurse-delegated training for specialized care (e.g., using a Hoyer lift)
Encouraging open communication between DSPs, families, and case managers
Empowering DSPs to leave unsafe situations and report them confidentially
